About Creative Girls Art

Creative Girls Art was born out of a desire to empower and encourage young girls through artistic expression.  In 2011, in response to a stirring in my heart to combine my love of art and creativity and the pursuit of building up young girls to be world changers, I took the first vulnerable step and developed a visual arts curriculum to address both. Creative Girls Art Summer Camps were first offered in the summer of 2012 and have been a summer art camp fixture in the community ever since!

A little about Andrea Thinnes, OTD, OTR/L

Founder of Creative Girls Art

I am the middle of five children and have grown up in Omaha my entire life.  In fact, 3 out of 4 of my siblings can say the same!  My husband Josh and I have 3 beautiful and creative children, Emily, Alex, and Mady.  I love to volunteer in my church and community and find a true calling on my life to work with young girls and women to learn about their God-designed, one-of-a-kind uniqueness!

Since 2006, I have been an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at Creighton University.  I teach courses on older adults, mental health, spirituality in OT practice, and coordinate the Gerontology Fellowship.

You may wonder, why in the world does a wife and mother of 3 with a full time career offer summer art camps?  It's actually a perfect mashup of many of the hobbies and occupations I hold dear to my heart.  You see as a mom and an occupational therapist I partner with my kids, students, co-workers, and clients how to find solutions to their challenges all day long.  I am fueled by serving others to be as independent as possible and participate in the things most meaningful to them.  And for me, the connection of meaningful tasks, creativity and art in order to problem solve and build up young girls in their confidence and communication skills makes total sense.

I am passionate about providing a safe, caring, creative, and supportive camp environment for the girls to get so much more out of 4 days of camp than a stack of completed art pieces!
